Welcome To The Bullpen
A Cowboys Day
Robert Blankenship
He’s up early in the morn
Rising way before the dawn
He wants to git out and git to workn
Lord knows, He’s got a lotta work to git done
He eats a breakfast freshly made
There’s biscuits by the dozen
That cook is a sure good feller
But the magic’s in that old dutch oven
He saddles up his ole horse
Pulls all the cinching tight
He already knows in his head
He’s sure gonna be sore again tonight
He heads out and rounds up cattle
Git’s em all headed to the corral
A wonderin how he’s gonna git it all done
Knowin he’s gotta git it done somehow
Now he heads out to the north fence
It needs a little mending
When he gits through with that
That hole in the barn needs tending
The troughs are thirsty for water
They need a good cool filling
It’s done after several trips from the water well
In his shoulder he sure can feel it
Gotta fix that right rear wheel
On that old chuckwagon
Make sure it’s gonna make the trail
When the cattle we start drivin
Head on over to the meadow
There’s a patch of brush needs a clearing
Aint got started hardly at all
When he hears that supper bell a ringing
With supper now behind him
There’s still work left that needs a doin
He just gits it all done
When the moon starts a showin
Ache’en , worn and tired
He heads back to his bunkhouse bed
Trys to git a little sleep
Then tomorrow does it all again.

REVIEW 1
I love this poem, the story it told makes me want to live back in the good ole days, although the cowboys had hard days they were a simpler time compared to today's stresses, you know the ones that really don't matter.

Review 2
As I read this I can smell the biscuits and feel the aches and pains the cowboys experienced on a daily basis. Well done.

REVIEW 3
I was raised with cowboys and still live on a ranch today. Your Cowboy seemed alittle stressed. Not many of them get that way. They usually take things in stride regardless of the chors for the day, but I still enjoyed reading it.

Review 4
I spent 50 years in the saddle doing all the things you've written about and I enjoyed it all. Never thought it a burden. Anyhow good story.
