Welcome To The Bullpen
PEARLY GATES
Jim Liles
There was this fella, whose name I don’t recall
Who met his untimely demise
Ride’n broncs at the local rodeo
Is were he made his final ride
Now this young fella I’m gonna tell ya
Had lived a pretty good life
He hadn’t caroused much, kind of a soft touch
A pretty good all-around guy
Now you’d think, he’d have it made
When to them pearly gates he did stride
But to his surprise, he was advised
Of bronc riders, why they were just plum full
Now Leo was not, a man to give up
So he called St Peter to the side
How long is the wait, to get through them gates
I don’t think I should have to wait
Now St Peter he tells him, wouldn’t be no wait
If some bronc rider decided to leave
But I’ll tell ya young fella, since I been at this gate
Ain’t no-one decided to leave
So that cowboy heads out, to sit under a tree
To figure out what he should do
But soon he returned, with posters and nails
A rodeo in hell there’s to be
Why the cowboys they flocked, to see what was up
By golly it sure drew a crowd
The poster it said, Rodeo In Hell
Your entry fee’s already paid
Well wouldn’t you know, them cowboys they rode
Through them pearly gates headed for hell
Now this left lots of room, St Peter assumed
For that young cowboy to come right on in
That cowboy was shocked, at the cowboys that flocked
Through the gates headed for hell
So he told St Peter, I must reconsider
With all them cowboys down there
Well I’m here to say, if my fees are paid
THAT RODEO IN HELL’S WHERE I’LL BE
