Cowboy Poetry and Western Verse

A COWBOY'S DREAMS
Joel T. Bailey

He stretched out on his bunk
Tiredness showing on his face
But as he slipped off to sleep
A smile slowly took its place

He's riding his favorite horse
Across a lush green valley
He gazes at his vast herd
That is way to big to tally

In the distance he can see
His ranch house on a hill
Below it runs a clear, cool river
Where his cattle drink their fill

He's standing on the porch
A young women by his side
A soft smile is on her face
In her hair a ribbon is tied

In the yard a small boy plays
Squeals of laughter fills the air
In his heart he feels so thankful
For the happiness they share

Then he awakes for its morning
His dreams now faded away
He puts on his boots and hat
And gets ready for another day

He's a forty and found cowboy
And thats all he will be it seems
But he'll ride for his own brand
Each night in his dreams
