A Rustlers Secret By Delia J. Fry
They met at the town social
The rustler and the lady
She was too shy to dance
So they just sat and talked
She is a farmer's daughter
A lonely motherless child
His life is a quick get away
One step ahead of the law
But together, they blossom
In the quiet moments, alone
They share their innocence
A rustler and his young lady
She sneaks away to meet him
As the midnight hour passes
Up high on the north mountain
He waits, pacing anxiously
He must leave at daylight
Staying this long is unwise
Take me with you she begs
He smiles, tomorrow for sure
The next day, past midnight
Where is she? Will she come?
He rides down the mountain
And finds her at death's door
She is mixed in with the briars
Dragged there by her horse
He holds her as she whispers
Take me up to north mountain
Up high on the north mountain
Where it has split it's middle
Buried deep within the darkness
Lays a rustlers painful secret
