BACON AND BEANS
By Lee Pierce
IT’S A HUNDRED AND TEN IN THE SHADE AGAIN
AND I’M OUT ROUNDIN’ UP STRAYS
THE SUN’S BEATIN’ DOWN WITH THE DEVIL’S OWN FROWN
ANOTHER HARDWORKIN’ COWBOYIN’ DAY
IT’S BACON AND BEANS, COLD HARDTACK BISCUITS
COFFEE DRUNK OUT OF A CAN
ALL DAY ON THE TRAIL FACIN’ BRUSH FIRES AND HAIL
RAINSTORMS THAT COULD DROWN ANY MAN
HE’S UP BEFORE DAWN THROWIN’HIS SADDLE ON
AN OLD CAYUSE THAT’S READY TO RUN
A FULL BLOOD COW HORSE POINT HIS HEAD TOWARD THE NORTH
AND RIDE HIM TIL YOU RUN OUT OF SUN
THREE MONTHS DRIVIN’ BEEves OUT OF TEXAS
NINETY DAYS OF RIDIN’ THROUGH HELL
THE END OF THE LINE IS A COWTOWN IN KANSAS
WITH A PAYDAY AT THE END OF THE TRAIL
LORD ONLY KNOWS WHY HE DOES IT
GUESS HE’S TrYIN’ TO BE HIS OWN MAN
HE’LL HAVE HIM SOME FUN TIL HIS MOnEY’S ALL DONE
THEN HE’LL RIDE BACK AND DO IT AGAIN
SOME FOLKS SAY “HE SURE PICKED A HARD WAY”
OTHERS SAY “AW, HE’S JUST A FOOL
SPENDIN’ HIS DAYS OUT ROUNDIN’ UP STRAYS”
AH, BUT HE’S DOIN’ JUST WHAT HE WANTS TO
SOMEDAY HE’LL RIDE OFF IN THE SUNSET
UP THAT GREAT CATTLE TRAIL IN THE SKY
ON THAT FATEFULL DAY, ‘BOUT ALL YOU CAN SAY
HE WAS A COWBOY MOST ALL OF HIS LIFE
