Cowboy Poetry and Western Verse

FOREVER YOUNG
Luana Chamness

Forever young in my mind
Is what you’ll always be
Cuz it ain’t the outside that counts
Inside yur heart is what I see.

Yur hair is sprinkled with snow dust
A few more laugh lines on yur face
Yur hands, a tad arthritic
Yur legs, not quite as fast a pace.

Yur hearin’ ain’t quite what it was
But neither is mine, so who cares?
Yur smile is the same as always
The mischief in yur eyes, still there.

The buckin’ bronc has tamed itself
Now to a trot, a li’l more slow
He seems to have a way with you
Darkie is so clever, he knows.

You ain’t really gettin’ older
Just movin’ toward senior years
In my mind, you’ll be forever young
Cuz I see inside yur heart, ya hear?
