GHOST TOWNS OF THE WEST
Joel T. Bailey
There are old forgotten places
Out in the vast Western land
Where reminders of the past
And ghost like buildings stand
Long ago cowboys and miners
Called these old towns home
Now they're places where only
Ghosts and coyotes roam
Some of the doors have fallen
Others are held up by one hinge
There's signs shot up by cowboys
On a Saturday night binge
Ghosts of outlaws and gunfighters
Haunt the old bars at night
Some died by the hangmans rope
Others in a stand up fight
Drought ended most of the ranches
And the mines played out too
The storekeepers had to move on
For there was nothing left to do
The ghost towns are disappearing
Before long they'll exist no more
Then they'll only be remembered
In the annals of Western lore
