Cowboy Poetry and Western Verse
Hollywood
Douglas Polk
Hollywood was his name,
given when first seen riding a horse,
an extra on a movie set,
the wrong hand held the reins,
jeans tucked into boots,
made of alligator or snake,
or some other foreign skin,
moving cattle he was out of place,
most of the day,
his horse at a gallop or walk,
causing cattle to stray,
his body bouncing,
on stirrups too long,
but eventually through the years,
experience taught him to correct his flaws,
but the nickname eternal,
the nickname remained,
same with his riding buddy,
a fellow named Paws,
but that is another story.
