It's Kansas Again
Larry Bradfield
Here I am in Kansas again
Said I wouldn't this year
I don't know how and don't know when
I'll get back outta here
Penned up them cows two days ago
And finished off the drive
Promised myself I'd take it slow
And get back south alive
Then Jimmy said "Let's partner up,
It's safer ridin' home.
But first we'll stop and have a cup,
And blow away some foam."
Well, that's the way it started out
A simple beer or two
But somewhere it became about
A red haired gal name Lou
I don't recall much that we spoke,
I must have had some fun.
But Lou's done gone and I'm flat broke
And Jimmy's on the run.
I told the sheriff of my plight
He chuckled soft and low
Said "Son,you told me 'bout this night
"You had a gal named Jane, I think.
And just bought her a beer.
You woke up in our local clink
And Jane's no longer here.."
"Son, yore a good cowboy I'd bet
These towns can be a shock
You rassle them longhorns and yet
These gals just clean yore clock."
Them words has got a bad aroma.
Sheriff thinks he's funny
Meantime Lou's in Oklahoma
Spendin' all my money
I'll stroll down to the cattle pen
See if they need a hand
They hired me last year just 'bout when
Jane left me in this land
I don't know how and don't know if
I'll get back outta here
But I'll not see Kansas like this
Least for another year
