Cowboy Poetry and Western Verse

It's Spring in Texas
Larry Bradfield

The bluebonnets seem pretty dull this year
And paint brushes fade in the morning dew
The mocking birds surely have lost their song
And the Texas Spring is drab without you

Things seem so different from a year ago
You were here and happy  a little while
Somehow I lost you in such a short time
You never looked back, not even a smile

Ah, but next year all this will be better
Beauty will be back as Spring restarts
Ranching goes on as new calves come alive
Why hell, Texas is built on broken hearts !

Ask Willie Nelson where he gets his stuff
The state is crowded with people like me
Some say it's my fault and maybe it is
The way a cowboy is supposed to be
