QUITE THE RIDE
Luana Chamness

It only took’em nine days
To get that wild geldin’ trained
Hard work and daily persistence
Actually, they never complained.

Whenever Muffin got thrown off Dare
Granddad kindly, but firmly would say
“Girl, you git on back in that saddle
Won’t be long, you’ll have this licked one day!”

Granddad was an old rodeo boy
So he knew what it was all ‘bout
And one darn good teacher I’ll add
Cuz he never let Muffin dropout.

They was up early each mornin’
And ridin’ till dusk each night
Their all went into this geldin’
They had to get it just right.

One evening’, after a long day
Granddad took me gently aside
“That gal is gallopin’ right along Lu
But today, she got quite the ride!”
