WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND?
Luana Chamness
We had the old Ford tractor
With the hay wagon behind
Pickin up some small square bales
Gosh, what was on big bro’s mind?
He had control of the wheel
And headed towards the fence
Up and sprung off the tractor
I thunk, Was that a bit dense?
Cuz standin’ on top of them bales
Me and my two siblins, oh yaaay!
Puzzled looks to each other
Like, What an adventure today.
Daddy limped runned to the rescue
And he tried to brake the tractor
But just not quite soon enough
His pace, a limitin’factor.
We roared thru the barbed wire fence
Stalled ‘fore goin’ in the gutter
All my siblins and me could do
Between ourselves was a li’l mutter.
I now look back on that day
More than 35 years ago
Wonderin’what was on his mind?
I thunk he panicked, my big bro!
